Research and development of Formy grips began in September 2014 by Sky Van Iderstine, a senior student of mechanical engineering at Virginia Tech who has since become a College of Engineering alumnus and Virginia Tech's 2015 Undergraduate Innovator of the Year. In 2013, Sky founded Strapping Fellow, an online business through which he designs, manufactures, and sells custom watch straps. Now he's applied everything he learned about custom product fabrication and online sales to Formy.

Since its inception, many in the Virginia Tech community have contributed to help grow Formy from a conceptual product into a reputable company. We won Virginia Tech's Innovation Competition in 2014 ($5,000 prize) and University of Virginia's Super Demo Competition in 2015 ($3,000 prize). With the funding from these competitions and the guidance of countless members of the Virginia Tech community, Formy launched Formy bike grips on Kickstarter in September 2016. After achieving over 180% funding on the Kickstarter campaign, all grips were shipped early or on time. Now Formy bike grips are available for sale exclusively on FormyGrips.com and will ship within 2 weeks of placing your order.
